Sept 01: Seismic activity in the Brawley Seismic Zone began late on August 28th
Aug 31: NAS report on "Improved Seismic Monitoring - Improved Decision Making: Assessing the Value of Reduced Uncertainty" available
June 16: A strong aftershock of M6.6 rattled the Cape Mendocino area late this evening
June 16: A moderate earthquake M4.9 rattled the Yucaipa area
June 14: Northern California was shaken by a major earthquake (M7.2) offshore of Crescent City

Dec 26: A magnitude 9.0 earthquake has struck off the West coast of Northern Sumatra. This event is one of the 4 largest in the world since 1900.
Dec 21: The CISN announces the availability of CISN Display.
Dec 09: A UC Berkeley study reports on observations of tremors on the San Andreas fault.
Nov 15: The 9/28/04 Parkfield ShakeMap has been updated with recently recovered values of peak ground velocity from the CGS stations.
Sep 29: An Mw 5.0 earthquake rattled Bakersfield, CA
Sep 28:The Mw6.0 Parkfield, CA, fulfilling the Parkfield Prediction Experiment.
Sep 18: A sequence of events is rattling the California/Nevada border east of Mono Lake.
Sep 15: The CISN Program Management Committee issued a CISN status report.
Aug 19: The California Geological Survey is working with BART to deploy accelerometers at BART stations. Data from these stations will be incorporated in CISN products such as ShakeMap and used for the rapid assessment of earthquake damage.
Aug 09: Rich Eisner is taking on the position of OES Coastal Regional Adminstrator, in addition continuing to manage OES' participation in CISN and National Tsunami Program.

Apr 02: The California Earthquake Prediction Evaluation Council released a report on the Southern California earthquake prediction proposed by Dr. Vladimir Keilis-Borok and colleagues.

Dec 26: A magnitude 6.6 earthquake has struck in southeastern Iran.
Dec 22: An M6.5 earthquake struck near San Simeon, California. The Northern California Management Center has issued a report on this event.
Dec 16: The CISN now offers a sign-up page for earthquake notification.
Dec 08: During the fall meeting of the AGU, Jim Goltz of OES made a presentation on earthquake early warning.
Sept 15: The AdHoc Panel on Earthquake Information Distribution issued a report on the requirements of an earthquake information distribution system.
Sept 12: The Advisory Committee met in Sacramento.
Aug 30: The CISN Program Management Committee issued a quarterly report on CISN status.
July 01: Jim Davis, California State Geologist, retired today after 25 years of service. Jim has played a important role in the development of the CISN and most recently served as Chair of the Steering Committee. More information about Jim and his career is available through the Web site of the California Geological Survey.
May 09: The CISN Program Management Committee issued a quarterly report on CISN status.
Apr 23: A new map of California's earthquake shaking hazard was released through a multi-agency collaboration.
Apr 22: A report on earthquake probabilities in San Francisco Bay Area was released by the USGS.
Feb 22: An M5.4 earthquake struck the Big Bear area. The Southern California Management Center has issued a report on this event.
Feb 02: A swarm of earthquakes is occurring in the area of Dublin, CA. The Northern California Management Center has issued a report on these events.
Jan 23: A ShakeMap for the News Media workshop was held at the USGS Menlo Park campus.
Jan 21: The Advisory Committee met in Pasadena.
Jan 17: The CISN Program Management Committee issued a quarterly report on CISN status.

Nov 24: A swarm of earthquakes is occurring in the area of San Ramon, CA. The Northern California Management Center has issued a report on these events.
Oct 25: The CISN Program Management Committee issued a quarterly report on CISN status.
Oct 5-10: Annual meeting of the Southern California chapter of the California Emergency Services Association in Palm Springs, CA. Jim Goltz of OES presented a poster on the CISN.
Jul 12: The Advisory Committee met at the OES Headquarters in Sacramento.
Jun 07: The PMG held a meeting in Sacramento to discuss long-term planning for seismic instrumentation in California.
May 23: Governor Davis of California appointed USGS scientist and chair of the CISN Steeering Committee, Lucy Jones, to the California Seismic Safety Commission.
Apr 23: Governor Davis announces new statewide seismic monitoring network
Apr 15: The CISN Program Management Committee issued a summary report on CISN status.
Apr 01: It is Earthquake Preparedness Month! Visit the OES Web site and be Ready to Ride it Out!
Jan 10: Governor Davis announced continued support for statewide earthquake monitoring in his 2002-2003 budget proposal.

2001

Dec 09: USGS Internet access restored.
Dec 06: USGS external Internet connections are cut-off by order of the Office of the Secretary of Interior. Real-time earthquake information for California is available through alternate Web sites.
Oct 01: The CISN issued a report on ANSS activities in FY2001 in California. This funding led to the installation of 30 digital seismic sites and 2 structural monitoring sites in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Sep 06: The CISN Steering committee submitted an abstract to the 2001 Fall Meeting of the American Geophysical Union.
Jul 26: Governor Davis signed the California budget today, which included $3.9 million for the CISN.
Jul 09: The CISN Advisory committee held its first meeting on the campus of Caltech in Pasadena. Chris Poland was elected chair.
Jan 19: The CISN Steering committee submitted an abstract to the 2001 Annual Meeting of the Seismological Society of America describing their efforts in California.
Jan 12: Governor Davis announced support for statewide earthquake monitoring in his 2001-2002 budget proposal.

Oct 01: The CISN issued a report on ANSS activities in FY2000 in California. This funding led to the installation of 40 urban monitoring sites in the San Francisco Bay Area.
