ANSS Activities

The CISN is participating as a region of the Advanced National Seismic System or ANSS. Although the ANSS is not yet fully funded by the US Congress, the USGS is supporting modest efforts to advance ANSS goals by funding regions to develop their monitoring infrastructure. In keeping with the goals of the CISN to improve seismic monitoring statewide, the funding that the CISN has received under ANSS has initially been used to improve the number and quality of seismic instruments in northern California so that the level of monitoring is comparable to that in southern California. In southern California, the ANSS has funded some on-going TriNet operational expenses. The ANSS has also funded the instrumentation of a few structures in California.

The CISN is organized to meet the needs of the state of California and the ANSS. While the needs of the two are typically the same, the fiduciary responsibilities of the CISN to its funding agencies require complex oversite. The CISN has chosen its Advisory Committee to meet the guidelines of the ANSS and the State of California.

The following reports document CISN activities funded by the USGS in support of ANSS:
