Activities

Under construction

The CISN is engaged in monitoring and research on California earthquakes. Each of the CISN institutions has a long history in earthquake activities and brings important perspective and skills to the collaboration. The combined networks of the CISN includes a wide range of sensors (short-period, broadband, and strong-motion) in different environments (surface and/or free field, structures, boreholes) with different recording and communications systems.

The CISN partners are currently working on several areas

  • Expand the seismic infrastructure in northern California
  • Improve the robustness of statewide earthquake notification
  • Develop applications to facilitate interpretation of rapid earthquke information
  • Implement the CISN Engineering Data Center to rapidly distribute statewide strong-motion data

These activites are in addition to the routine operation and maintenance of existing CISN facilities. More details on these projects can be found in the descriptions of the ANSS activities and OES activities of the CISN.
